Washington Commanders meet Seattle Seahawks in NFL Week 3 at Northwest Stadium. The model makes Seattle Seahawks the favourite. Here's the read, the win probabilities and the value it's flagging.

Seattle Seahawks are the pick here at 61% in the model's eyes and the reason is not complicated. The ratings gap is the whole story: Seahawks sit at 1696, Commanders down at 1425, a 271-point split that's about as clear as these things get. When the model leans that hard on one number, it's worth listening.

Washington aren't without weapons though. They've got the better Quarterback rating, 47 to 43, and the better Pass Rush, 64 to 59, plus the edge in the Backfield, 57 to 49. Seattle answers back where it counts more: Secondary, 61 to 57, and Special Teams isn't close at all, 73 to 39. Add in Team Rating and Recent Form both running Seattle's way, and you can see why the model backs the Seahawks despite Washington winning two individual positional battles.

History's mostly sided with Seattle too. Of the last 12 meetings, Seahawks have taken 7, Commanders 5. The most recent one wasn't close: Seattle won 38-14 at FedExField back in Week 9 last year. Not proof of anything on its own, but it fits the pattern the ratings are describing.

Form is where this gets one-sided. Washington are 0-2 this season, averaging 21.0 points for and leaking 30.5 against, and they've dropped their last two straight. Seattle are 2-0, scoring 22.0 and conceding just 8.5, riding five straight wins. Zoom out to the last five games proper and it's the same shape: Commanders averaging 21.4 for, 27.4 against, an average margin of minus 6. Seahawks are putting up 29 a game while conceding 12.6, for an average margin of plus 16.4. One side's trending LLWLL, the other's a clean WWWWW. That's not a subtle difference.

Both clubs come in on equal footing physically at least, seven days rest each, so call that factor a wash, which the model does. Dan Quinn's side will lean on Marcus Mariota under centre, Mike Macdonald's on Sam Darnold, and neither quarterback rating gap, 47 to 43, is enough to flip this on its own.

Put the numbers together and the model has Seattle winning by 2.0, with the total sitting around 43. The market's a touch more bullish on the margin, Seahawks -3.5, and sees a bigger total, 46.5. Line-ball stuff at the edges, but the direction's the same.

In the market, Seattle Seahawks are $1.52 and Washington Commanders $2.60, Seahawks the clear favourite there too. The model reckons that's a bit rich though, calling a -16.3% edge against the $1.29 elsewhere quoted for the same side, meaning it doesn't love backing Seattle at that price even while tipping them to win. On the margin, the model's pick is Washington Commanders at the 7.5 line, priced at $1.80, no edge claimed since it doesn't grade that market. On the total, it likes the Over 40.5 at $1.91, same deal, no edge stated, just the lean.

For the scoring props, Jaxon Smith-Njigba's the standout, anytime touchdown at $2.05 with the model giving him a 50% chance, and he's also the first-scorer pick at $6.00 with 11%. Jacory Croskey-Merritt (anytime $3.75, 35%) and Jadarian Price (anytime $2.30, 32%) round out the ground game plays, while on the Washington side Terry McLaurin ($3.85, 31%) and Stefon Diggs ($4.40, 28%) get the model's nod anytime, with Emanuel Wilson at $2.80 for 22%.

So the honest version: Seattle Seahawks are favoured on the ratings, the form and the model's own number, but Washington still hold two of the trench-and-arm battles and it wouldn't take much, a fast start from Mariota, the pass rush getting home early, to make this closer than 61-39 suggests. The model's happy to back Seattle. It's just not pretending it's a lock.
