**Cincinnati Bengals vs Detroit Lions Prediction and Tips - NFL Week 5, 2025**

_By Ben Dunlop · Published: 6 Oct 2025, 07:25 am_

Cincinnati Bengals 24–37 Detroit Lions in NFL Week 5 at Paycor Stadium. Here's how the result stacked up against the model's call, with the win-probability story and where the value landed.

Sam LaPorta got the Lions on the board with ten and a half minutes still left in the first quarter, and from there Detroit never really let Cincinnati back into it until the result was already decided. By the time Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery had crossed either side of the third quarter's midpoint, the Lions led 27-3 and the game had turned into a formality. It finished 37-24, but the scoreboard late doesn't change what happened in the middle two quarters.

Detroit led 14-3 at the break and simply kept adding to it. Brock Wright's touchdown with just over twelve minutes left in the second quarter made it 13-0 before Cincinnati managed a single point, and the Lions took that same shape into the second half and ran it out further: 20-3, then 27-3 inside five minutes. Three unanswered touchdowns across that stretch is how you turn a contest into a laugher.

Ja'Marr Chase gave the Bengals something to talk about in the fourth quarter, both of his touchdowns coming in the space of five minutes to briefly make it 16-28. Tee Higgins added a third Cincinnati score with just over three minutes left. None of it mattered much. Isaac TeSlaa's touchdown for Detroit in between was the answer that kept the margin comfortable, and the final gap stood at 13 points, closer on paper than the game ever felt.

The numbers back up the eye test. Detroit out-gained Cincinnati 379 to 336, ran for 118 yards to the Bengals' 85, and posted an offensive EPA of plus 9.2 against Cincinnati's minus 7. That's a 16-point swing in efficiency before you even look at the scoreboard. Add three turnovers to Detroit's one, and Cincinnati was fighting uphill all day regardless of what the yardage column said.

Jared Goff had the cleaner afternoon by any measure: 19 of 23 for 258 yards and three touchdowns, no picks. Jake Browning worked harder for less, 26 of 40 for 251 yards and three touchdowns of his own, but three interceptions undid a lot of the good work. Chase was Cincinnati's one genuine weapon, six catches for 110 yards and both his touchdowns, and Montgomery led all rushers with 65 yards on 18 carries. Efficient backs beating a stat sheet is nothing new, but Montgomery did it with the Lions already up big, which tells you plenty about how comfortable Detroit were.

None of this should surprise anyone who looked at the positional read beforehand. Detroit came in rated well clear at quarterback, 60 to 35, and in the backfield, 61 to 33, and both showed up exactly where you'd expect: on the ground and through explosive plays when it counted. Cincinnati's only real edge was in the secondary, 58 to 57, and it wasn't enough to slow down a Lions receiving corps rated 66 to 49.

Alphr's model had Detroit as 21.2-point favourites at 80 percent to win, working off ratings of 1651 to 1497. The Lions won by 13 instead of 21, but the shape of the game, dominant through the middle before easing off once it was safely out of reach, is exactly what that number was built to expect.
