**New England Patriots vs Carolina Panthers Prediction and Tips - NFL Week 4, 2025**

_By Ben Dunlop · Published: 29 Sept 2025, 03:00 am_

New England Patriots 42–13 Carolina Panthers in NFL Week 4 at Gillette Stadium. Here's how the result stacked up against the model's call, with the win-probability story and where the value landed.

New England Patriots beat Carolina Panthers 42-13 at Gillette Stadium, and on the scoreboard that's about as one-sided as it gets. Look at the yardage sheet and the story gets murkier: Carolina actually outgained New England 337 to 307. A 29-point margin built on fewer yards. That's not a contradiction, it's the whole plot.

The answer is efficiency, not volume. New England's offensive EPA sat at 17.6 for the game, Carolina's at minus-1.6. Whatever Carolina were doing with their extra 30 yards, it wasn't hurting anyone. New England, doing less with less, kept finding the end zone.

The shape of it was set early. Tommy Tremble opened the scoring for Carolina inside the first five minutes, and for about five minutes New England looked like they might be chasing the game. Drake Maye levelled it before the first quarter was out, and from there New England simply didn't stop. Three more touchdowns arrived in the second quarter alone, from Maye himself, TreVeyon Henderson and Antonio Gibson, and by half-time it was 28-6. Hunter Henry and Mack Hollins added scores either side of the third-quarter break to push it to 41-6 before Carolina managed a second touchdown, Mitchell Evans, with two minutes left and the result long since filed away.

Maye's numbers explain plenty: 14 of 17 for 203 yards and two touchdowns, barely a hair out of place. Bryce Young threw more, 18 of 30 for 150 and a single score, and needed those extra attempts just to keep pace on the ledger, not the scoreboard. Chuba Hubbard was Carolina's best individual number, 49 yards on 10 carries, and Stefon Diggs was the game's leading receiver regardless of team, 6 catches for 101. Both showed up in the box score. Neither showed up where it counted.

What makes the gap more interesting is where each side was supposedly stronger going in. Carolina held the edge at quarterback, in the backfield, in the secondary and on special teams. New England's advantages were the receiving corps and the pass rush. On paper that's a Carolina team built to control a game like this. On the day, none of those edges translated, and New England's two strengths were enough to carry the other four categories.

Form lines had these two roughly matched too, both 2-3 across the last five, Carolina actually scoring more per game on average and conceding slightly more as well. Neither profile pointed to a 29-point margin either way.

Alphr's model got the winner right, New England favoured at 58 percent, but the margin call wasn't close. It had this at 1.5 points and a combined total of 34. The actual margin was 29, and the total came in at 55, 21 points above the projection. Right team, wrong universe. Wins and misses, all of it, and this one was a miss worth remembering next time these two sides get pencilled in as evenly matched.
