**Miami Dolphins vs New England Patriots Prediction and Tips - NFL Week 2, 2025**

_By Ben Dunlop · Published: 15 Sept 2025, 03:00 am_

Miami Dolphins 27–33 New England Patriots in NFL Week 2 at Hard Rock Stadium. Here's how the result stacked up against the model's call, with the win-probability story and where the value landed.

Start with 18.2 versus 8.8. That's the expected-points gap New England ran up on offense, and it's the reason Miami Dolphins finished the day with more yards and less to show for it. New England Patriots won 33-27 at Hard Rock Stadium, and every time Miami threatened to make it a track meet they win outright, New England had an answer ready.

The gap showed early. Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte both crossed inside the first quarter's final minute, and New England led 12-0 before Miami had managed a first-half response. Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane hauled Miami back to 14-15 by the break, but New England had banked the efficiency, not just the points, and it kept paying off.

The third quarter belonged to Drake Maye, who capped a drive with 12 seconds left on the clock to put New England back in front, 20-21 heading to the fourth. Miami had one more push in them: Malik Washington's touchdown with 7:39 to go flipped it to 26-23. It lasted 21 seconds. Antonio Gibson answered straight back, and New England never trailed again.

Miami actually won the yardage battle, 376 to 352, and led first downs 31 to 26. None of it mattered much against the two numbers that did: New England got to Tua Tagovailoa five times to Miami's three sacks of Drake Maye, and Miami's lone turnover was the only one either side coughed up all game. On the road, with a rookie quarterback, that's the kind of ledger that should have hurt New England, not the other way round.

Tagovailoa was excellent by the raw numbers, 26 of 32 for 315 yards and two touchdowns, but the one interception cancelled out a chunk of that production. Maye, playing behind a pass rush that only got to him three times, went 19 of 23 for 230 and matched him score for score. Rhamondre Stevenson quietly did the finishing work on the ground, 54 yards on just 11 carries, and New England's 122 rushing yards to Miami's 61 tells you which side controlled the physical parts of the game even while trailing on paper. Tyreek Hill was still Miami's most dangerous weapon, 6 catches for 109 yards, but a dangerous weapon isn't much use when the team is chasing the whole fourth quarter.

Miami came in with the better backfield rating, 61 to 39, and it barely registered on the day, New England outrushed them by 61 yards regardless. New England's receiving corps edge, 60 to 48, showed up in exactly the way you'd expect, four touchdown targets spread around rather than leaned on one man.

Alphr's model had New England as 67% favourites and predicted the margin at 4.3 points. The actual margin came in at 6, close enough to call it a good read. The total was the miss, 60 points against a projected 45, but the winner and the shape of the win, New England's superior efficiency dragging them through a game they were outgained in, that part the model had right before kickoff.
