**Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction and Tips - NFL Week 16, 2025**

_By Ben Dunlop · Published: 22 Dec 2025, 05:00 am_

Carolina Panthers 23–20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers in NFL Week 16 at Bank of America Stadium. Here's how the result stacked up against the model's call, with the win-probability story and where the value landed.

One turnover. That's the gap between Tampa Bay Buccaneers walking out with the better yardage sheet and walking out with nothing, because Carolina Panthers won this 23-20 despite being outgained by 22 yards. Baker Mayfield's interception was the only turnover either side coughed up all night, and it landed at the worst possible time for Tampa Bay.

The lead changed hands more than once and neither side let this get comfortable. Mike Evans opened the scoring with 4:06 left in the first quarter, and Tampa Bay led 7-3 at the end of the term. Tetairoa McMillan's touchdown with 12 seconds left in the half flipped it back to Carolina, 13-10 at the main break. Sean Tucker put Tampa Bay back in front early in the third, 16-13, only for Ja'Tavion Sanders to answer with 17 seconds left in the quarter and shove Carolina back ahead, 19-17. Carolina led 20-17 heading into the fourth and closed it out 23-20. One score, the whole way through.

Tampa Bay did the bulk of its work on the ground: 169 rushing yards to Carolina's 101, and Bucky Irving led all runners with 71 yards on 19 carries. Add in a 314 to 292 edge in total yards and a slim advantage in first downs, 26 to 25, and on paper this reads like a Tampa Bay win. It wasn't, because the ledger that actually decides these things, points and turnovers, went Carolina's way.

Through the air the gap ran the other direction. Bryce Young went 21 of 32 for 191 yards and two touchdowns, clean, no picks. Mayfield finished 18 of 26 for 145 yards and a touchdown of his own, but the interception undoes a lot of good work on a night this tight. McMillan was the best target on the field regardless of jersey: six catches for 73 yards and the score that got Carolina level before half-time.

None of this should shock anyone who looked at the positional numbers before kickoff. Carolina's quarterback rating of 57 against Tampa Bay's 39 was the biggest mismatch on the board, and it showed up exactly where you'd expect: a clean stat line from Young against a costly one from Mayfield. Tampa Bay actually rated stronger in the backfield, 57 to 52, and in the secondary, 62 to 60, which lines up with the ground game and the tight overall yardage count. But none of that matters when the other side wins the turnover count 1-0 and cashes in twice in the red zone when it counts.

Alphr's model had Tampa Bay favoured by 3 points on a combined total of 42, working off ratings of 1492 to Carolina's 1397. The final margin came in at 3 points too, just to the other team, and the combined score of 43 missed the total by a single point. A 54% lean toward Tampa Bay looked reasonable on paper. It just didn't account for Mayfield's one bad moment being the only one either quarterback had all night.

Form coming in suggested this could go either way. Carolina had won two of its last five, Tampa Bay just one, and Tampa Bay had been leaking points at 29.6 a game on average against Carolina's 22.4. Rest matt
