**Kansas City Chiefs vs Houston Texans Prediction and Tips - NFL Week 14, 2025**

_By Ben Dunlop · Published: 8 Dec 2025, 12:20 pm_

Kansas City Chiefs 10–20 Houston Texans in NFL Week 14 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Here's how the result stacked up against the model's call, with the win-probability story and where the value landed.

Kansas City did most of the things a winning team does and still lost. The Chiefs outgained Houston 286 yards to 285, ran for 126 against the Texans' 82, and picked up 22 first downs to Houston's 19. Their pass rush got home three times to Houston's two. By almost every traditional yardage measure, this looks like a team that should have won. Final score says otherwise: Houston Texans 20, Kansas City Chiefs 10.

The gap is turnovers, plain and simple. Kansas City coughed it up three times. Houston coughed it up zero. Patrick Mahomes finished 14-of-33 for 160 yards and three interceptions, and against a Texans secondary rated 68 to Kansas City's 53 coming in, that trade wasn't going to break Houston's way. Offensive EPA makes the same point in colder numbers: Kansas City sat at minus-18.5, Houston at minus-4.9. That's better than a 13-point efficiency swing snap for snap, and it's the number that decided this game, not the yardage column.

Houston never trailed. They led 3-0 after the first quarter and were up 10-0 at half-time off Woody Marks' touchdown with 9:29 left in the second. Kareem Hunt got Kansas City on the board early in the third, a score that made it 6-10, and the Chiefs actually pulled level at 10-10 by the end of that quarter. For a while it looked like Kansas City might steal it back. Then Dare Ogunbowale scored with seven minutes left in the fourth to put Houston in front 16-10, and Kansas City had no answer after that. Final margin: 10 points.

Marks did plenty of the damage himself, 68 yards on 26 carries, nothing spectacular but enough to keep the clock moving and Kansas City's defence stretched. Through the air, C.J. Stroud was the far more accurate quarterback: 15-of-31 for 203 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. Nico Collins did the heavy lifting as his top target, four catches for 121 yards, more than half of Houston's total passing output funnelled through one man.

Kansas City's defence held up its end in other areas. The Chiefs won the sack count and the total yardage battle, and their run game, 126 yards, was the best number on the stat sheet all night. None of it counted for much once the turnovers piled up. Three extra Houston possessions off Kansas City giveaways is the sort of thing no yardage total covers for.

Houston came in having won four of their last five, Kansas City just two of theirs, and Houston held the edge in the two areas that tend to matter in tight, low-scoring games: special teams, 77 to 63, and secondary, 68 to 53. Both showed up when it counted.

Alphr's model had Kansas City winning this one at an 80 percent clip, expected to cover by 8.6 points off ELO ratings of 1625 to 1589. Houston won by 10

**Referee Watch**

Alan Eck officiated this match (49 career games). The combined score of 30 points was 15 points below Alan Eck's career average of 45. Houston Texans bucked the trend, Kansas City Chiefs historically win 100% of games under Alan Eck, but couldn't convert that edge today. Despite Alan Eck's 69% career home-team win rate, the away side Houston Texans prevailed.
